Concept

In the spring of 2013, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce was looking to update the member ship directory with a number of challenges that they asked me to solve. They were looking to create a more elegant look to their existing directory while still appearing to be business-like. They also needed a bit of a different look to the existing directory, making it more modern and contemporary.

I then started working on word associations and from there developinging themes which would influence the overall lokk of the project. Once a theme was decided upon and developed, I sketched out layout options for the directory.

Execution

To effectively execute this project I combined my vast knowledge and experience in print publisjing and layout as well as my technical skills with Adobe Creative Suite.

I made templates of the different page styles in InDesign and prepared the accompanying graphics in Illustrator and photoshop. I imprted copy using word and excel and formatted it all back in InDesign using mater pages and stylesheets

I was also responsible of organizing the ad files and placement of the ads withing the directory as well as creation of many of the ads. With many moving parts this project utilized my organizational and planning skills to efficiently execute the project on time and on budget.

Follow up

Taking the product from the very beginning to the final printed piece was not only invaluable experience for me as a designer but extremely rewarding for me, especially as the client was so happy with their experience too.

On revisiting the client regarding the project I received a lot of positive feedback on the the Directory in both the design of the piece as well as the ease of how the process between design and client took shape.

I continue to work with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce frequently to this day and know we both have a great professional relationship that has stemmed from the Membership Directory project.
